Urgent Town Council Meeting

The Mayor of Almuñécar, Trinidad Herrera has convoked an extraordinary and urgent meeting of the Town Council for Monday 23rd September. The prime reason concerns the Urbanización Cármenes del Mar.

The second item on the agenda concerns the Acuario, after no valid bids were entered to take on the running of the controversial installations.

Two companies had put forward bids but neither of their offers kept within the budget stipulated. The Town Council had put a ceiling of 950,000 euros, but not only did the two bids fail to fall below that figure; they went well over it. Municipal assessors consider that it will cost about half a million to run the installations and that another half a million can be taken as profit; hence the 950,000 figure.

What the Town Hall is offering, it should be remembered, is not only the management of the municipal aquarium, but also the bird park, Loro Sexi, and the mountain park, Peña Escrita.

The next step is to declare the annulment of the tender process, which will allow the Town Council to waiver certain financial stipulations and even accept offers from companies that did not bid during the tender process.
