The Mayor of Almuñécar, Trinidad Herrera, says that she only recognizes two PA councillors, who owe their legitimacy to the last local elections. She had called a press conference for this morning, which is where she made this statement.
She said that the PA/PP governing pact remains in force, despite calls for PA councillors, Olga Ruano and Luis Aragón to terminate it.
“We consider Luis Aragón and Olga Ruano as legitimate representatives of the PA in Almuñécar because it was they who ran in the local elections in the name of the PA party, and they can count upon my unconditional support,” she stated. She went on to say that she thought it sad that they had been sacrificed by the new party arrangement when it was they who brought the PA through the last elections.
She also said that she wonders why this decision for the new PA to break with the PP is only happening in Almuñécar, when in other municipalities where the two parties govern in coalition, nobody has been ordered to break the pact.
Luis Aragón was convinced in his assertion that “Benavides is in the opposition and would remain there, even after the next elections.”
The new PA, however, considers that the press conference was a demonstration of “how nervous the PP is, watching their council leadership unravel.”
The CA/PA consider the Herrera Administration to have been a disaster so far. General Secretary for the combined formation, Antonio Jesús Ruiz, rejects the interference by the PA in his party’s decisions
“At no time has the Partido Andalucista attempted to bring down Mayor Trinidad Herrera, even though her legitimacy as Mayor is now more than questionable,” he said.
