When was the last time you took a stagecoach ride? Yup – never, but here’s your chance, because with a bit of luck the Melegís-Cónchar line will be up and running.
No, we haven’t lost our marbles down in the Seaside Gazette engine room, because three partners have decided to open up a stagecoach service in the Valle de Lecrín. At the end of the 1800’s and the first decade of the 1900’s the stagecoach was the only way to move around. For example, In 1887 a stagecoach company called Porvenir opened up a new route, Motril-Granada. Unless you wanted to do it on horseback, it was the only way to do it.
J. Manuel Garcia, Carmen Lguna and Diego García got together and thought what a good idea it would be to open up stagecoach routes all through the Valle de Lecrín, using the picturesque back routes. The trip between Melegís and Cónchar would take about two hours, giving passengers plenty of time to enjoy this scenic route.
The stagecoach is a 10-seater, drawn by four horses, although they have planes to build smaller ones too.
Sounds like a brilliant idea; we’ll see if we can get more info on it for our readers.
