Maroween

The Nerja municipal dependency of Maro, has combined the tradition of eating roasted chestnuts and sweet potato on All Saints Day with the ever-more-popular Halloween and come up with Maroween.

The Councillor for Popular Traditions, Sandra Jimena, and the First Councillor for Maro, presented the official poster for the event: Fiesta de la Castaña y El Boniato, Maroween 2012.

The celebrations will take place in the Plaza de Maro on the 31st around 18.00h, where you will be able to fill your boots with chestnuts and sweet potato and no doubt lashings of lethal anís , which goes down too easily and spends the next day reminding you all about it.

There will also be prizes for the best fancy dress costumes, as well as a raffle and a choto (baby goat stew), which has been re-named for the event a chotoween.
