Prison for Pizza Robber

A court in Motril (Granada) has sentenced a resident of Almunecar to five and a half years in prison, for injuries caused to a pizza-delivery man, whom he had hit with a motorcycle helmet in the street to steal the money he had.

The robbery took place after the delivery man refused to give the offender a pizza, explaining that he had delivered and was not carrying any pizza. Another man who was with him at the time of the assault was acquitted.

The incident occurred on May 17th, 2008 at about 10pm, when two men on a moped on the seafront promenade of Almunecar saw a pizza-delivery man approaching and managed to block his way causing him to stop. It was then that the offender demanded the pizza.

After failing to secure any pizza, the assailant demanded the money he had and hit him several times in the head when he refused, he then began hitting the poor chap with a crash helmet, striking him several times in the face, shouting, “Give me money or I’ll kill you!”

The blows were so savage as to leave the delivery man unconscious, a state which the aggressor took advantage of to steal 400 euros the victim was carrying in waist bag.

The other man involved, who was acquitted, had started to leave the scene when his companion turned violent, but returned and told him to stop hitting the victim.

As a result of his injuries, the delivery man was hospitalized for 60 days before recovering enough to go home.
