Another Drowning

With the death of a 61-year-old man, this time in Almunecar, the Costa Tropical has registered three deaths through drowning in just two days.

The body of the man, who was on holiday from the city of Granada, was found between the Playa del Muerto and Cotobro beach.

The Policia Local were alerted around two o’clock in the afternoon by bathers who reported a body seen floating in the water. Rather than waiting for the emergency services to arrive, fellow bathers pulled the man from the water and attempted to revive him. A married couple said they saw the victim arrive at the beach in the company of others, but that he had remained behind when they had left.

The emergency services continued with attempts to revive the man but in vain. The family was informed and the son of the drowned man identified him.

A Turkish family, who had been sitting next to the victim’s towel, etc, explained in English to the police and son how events had unfolded.

At 4pm the body was removed after the coroner had issued the death certificate.

Proteccion Civil are appealing to residents and holidaymakers to make sure that the elderly and children are always accompanied on the beaches.
