First Snow Fall

Even before summer had officially ended, we had our first snowfall up in the Sierra Nevada. On the 13th of September there was a light snowfall around the 3,000-metre mark. Hardly surprising, really, considering it’s the Sierra ‘Nevada.’
Then a again, things haven’t been the same since 1995 when the World Skiing Championships that were to be held in the Sierra Nevada were cancelled due to a lack of snow… Thankfully the championship organisers agreed to postpone the event until 1996 otherwise all the infrastructure investment would have been in vain. The reason for this unlikely lack of snow at the time was because we were right in the middle of a drought period – remember?
