More Crime?

This article was originally published in June 2009 and is visible now so that readers can look at what was happening on the Costa Tropical back then.

Unfortunately, we start this month with crime. Regular readers will recall the incidents of indecent exposure reported recently in the Gazette, which have occurred in both La Herradura and Almuñécar.

Well, it has now happened again, with a 15-year-old girl being called over to a blue car, thought to be an Alfa, on the Paseo Andrés Segovia, with the driver saying that he was lost and needing directions.

On approaching the car, the girl saw that the male driver was masturbating, at which point she ran off and later, along with her mother, attended the Guardia Civil station to report the incident.

This is the fourth indecency incident in the last couple of months, and with an approximation of only 5% of this type of crime being reported, we can only wonder at how many more women and girls are being targeted.

Add to this, the horrific incident last month of a woman very nearly killed by her ex partner, who later committed suicide here in La Herradura along with two armed robberies in Almuñécar, it begs the question, whether the economic crisis is dragging society here, as a whole, down into a more criminally active environment?
