Look It’s Music Update

With all the doom and gloom and talk of recession, it’s great to have a real ‘feel good’ story, and Look It’s Music has the ‘feel good’ factor in spades!
In a relatively short time, with masses of enthusiasm, dedication and hard work, Russell, Vicente and the team have created not just a school of music, but a local phenomena, without which the area would be a great deal poorer, both culturally and socially.
Here’s a taster of what the guys are up to:
Saturday Funklub; a three hour workshop from 11.00-14.00 which comprises four classes, introducing kids to singing, electric guitar, drums, Samba and drama. The emphasis here is on learning, while having fun, in a safe, relaxed atmosphere, and it’s only €21 for the entire session.
The brilliant and famous local hero Ricardo de la Juana, has recognised the importance of Look It’s Music, and is giving Flamenco guitar classes every Tuesday at 19.00. This is a very popular class, with students learning from a true Flamenco player. Other times can be scheduled to suit.
Summer school… this has still not got its official name yet, but the format will be a week-long workshop where the kids will form bands, compose a song, play instruments, sing, design a logo, poster and t-shirt. The aim of the week is for them to perform their song at the end of the week in the Dallas Chillout Lounge! (to be confirmed).
Look It’s Music extends a special welcome to Stephen Bellm, the new keyboard teacher who will be taking some of the keyboard classes.
The Shop! Look It’s Music now stocks all kinds of useful accessories such as plectrums, strings, straps, bags, music stands, leads, tuners, amplifiers, guitars and keyboards. There is also an order system, so you can order any instruments, but with the added benefit of prior advice and direction on owning such an instrument from the teachers.
Birthday parties… How about a recording session birthday party, where you can bring a group of friends and record your favourite song! Then take away copies of your track. Food and drink can be provided and although all the parties so far have been for kids… I can see the potential for some really good fun to be had by adults as well!
Music Production and DJ mixing class. Don’t think that Look It’s Music is just a classical music academy. They offer classes in more contemporary forms of music, and to that end, Sam Jones, a London DJ, is offering classes in DJ mixing! There are even classes in music production, for those who have an interest in making music on their computer.
Staying with the modern theme, there is also now a Street/Hip Hop dance teacher in response to the overwhelming demand for such classes. However, no schedules have been set up, so students need to contact the school to let them know what they want to do and ideas for a timetable.
Finally, don’t forget Look It’s Music has a full recording studio, and a number of local bands have already done recording sessions there, including Solemn Goat. The recording studio can be rented on flexible terms.
