It was last year, we believe, that anybody passing the Carchuna beach would have seen hundreds of metres of cucumber mounds, rotting. The reason was that there had been a glut and it was cheaper to dump them rather than sell them at below-production prices.
This year the sector is beset by the same problem and the local cucumber farmers were talking of dumping the whole crop again.

N-340 Improvements

Anybody travelling between La Herradura and Almuñecar will have noted road workers laying tarmac and other improvements.
The other improvements in question being stabilization work, which can be seen going on below the road, beside the main junction – there has been a boring machine that has been sinking horizontal piles to stabilize the road bank.
Winter Cinema

It’s been around 30 years since los Salobreñeros lost their winter cinema – sure, in the summer, there are the open-air variety, (Cañaveral) but if you wanted to see a film in a cinema, you had to go to Almuñécar, Motril, or even El Ingenio in Vélez Málaga. Now that’s changed.
