The body of an elderly German man was found floating off Torrox-Costa beach on Sunday evening around 18.00h.

A caller phoned in to say that there was a body floating not far from the shore, more or less in front of the Urbanización Laguna Beach. The caller was one of a group of bathers who had spotted the 83-year-old man and brought him back to the beach.

Minutes later a Policía Local patrol arrived at the scene and carried out CPR. They were soon joined by an ambulance crew and the guardia Civil but all efforts to revive him were to no avail.

The victim was a German tourist who had been staying at a nearby hotel with his wife. She had been with him on the beach but she had lost sight of him because the current had taken him 300 metres further along the beach.
