Circus Gets Reprieve

MOT Circus RomaAll change because now the Circo Roma Dola will go ahead and open its door (or flaps) to its Big Top in Motril, after all.

What’s changed? Well, the circus owner agreed to not only refrain from using its animal acts but also to move the animals out of the municipality altogether.

Circus owner, Julio De la Torre, explained that he had made this new proposal through his lawyer, which should satisfy the left-wing party, IU, and animal protection associations. Even so, Sr. Del la Torre is still pretty miffed.

Furthermore, within hours of the Town Hall withdrawing his live-performance licence, he had gathered 300 signatures in his favour from the townsfolk.

He says that children want to see lions and hippos whilst at the same time emphasising that all the animals under the care of the circus are healthy and well kept.

“I’m not talking about what I want or what the Town Hall wants: I’m talking about what the people want and they would like to see the animals in the circus ring,” he concluded.

Editorial comment: the truth is that if you ask any kid if they want to see a real lion in a live show,  they are going to say yes. We, as adults have different opinions based on our principles but if you ask a kid without swilling out his brains with the ‘politically correct,’ he is going to say, “bring on the lions!”

OK, so I’m a big kid, too, but given the chance of prying a kid away from his computer games and putting him in front of a live show with lions and somebody standing on a galloping horse’s back, well… Perhaps we have forgotten what it was like to be a kid.
