AECC Charity Run Loja Salobreña 2019Two brothers began a long-distance run today from Loja’s Plaza de la Victoria to Salobreña, arriving tomorrow in support of the AECC to raise funds.

Francisco Lopera (who is a waiter at the popular Restaurante El Surtidor) and José Antonio lost both their parents to cancer and have decided that they would attempt this fund-raising run from the town where their parents were born down to the Costa Tropical.

The route that Francisco (46) and José Antonio (57) are taking is Loja to Santa Fe using secondary roads and from there, Malahá, Otura and Dúrcal. At this point they will reach the coast via the old main road (N-323).

But before they arrive in Salobreña they will join up with other runners at Vélez Benaudalla, who will accompany them on this last leg of a gruelling 24-hour run.

This is not the first time that they have done the route – last year they did it the other way round, ending in Loja.

Their hope is that through this gesture the cancer association AECC will be able to raise funding for its crucial efforts to provide support for cancer suffers and their families.

Tomorrow around midday, friends and locals will be their to receive the Lopera brothers when they enter the Plaza Goya, where the finishing line will be. Once the cheering and congratulatory embraces have taken place they will be in Café Julián, there on the roundabout.

After that, the AECC will greet them with a piping hot, charity paella, which will be sold at two euros a plate for the cause, on the playground of the local school, Colegio Mayor Zaragoza.

So, Folks, make sure that you’re there to watch them cross the line and afterwards enjoy the paella and thus support this very necessary cause.
