GRA WiFi4EUNine municipalities within the province have been chosen to host free, Internet access via WiFi4EU in public building and spaces.

Amongst the towns chosen was Motril. The other eight were: Albolote, Granada, Atarfe, Huétor Santillán, Peligros, Trevélez, Aldeire and Ugíjar.

A total of 240 municipalities within Spain were chosen and the province of Granada enjoys the largest allocation of towns.

The WiFi4EU project was launched by the European Commission on the 9th of March, offering a budget of 15,000 euros per municipality included. Each town will use this grant to purchase the equipment for the chosen public spaces, such as public squares and buildings. Each town hall, however, must foot the bill for hiring the server provider.

This free internet access will not be used to obtain user information nor will it include advertising space. Finally, town halls cannot use it where public or private systems of a similar quality already exist.
