Eye Ripped out in Fight

GRA Guardia Civil generic 02A 51-year-old man was hospitalised in Granada (Traumatología) after receiving a brutal beating in Montejícar (Northern Granada).

Such was the violence involved that he literally had an eye torn from its socket – the other eye was in such bad shape that doctors are not sure whether that they can save it, either.

The aggressors were relatives and the source of the dispute was over the sale of a horse and an absence of payment. The victim was the seller and the deal had been sealed only with a handshake.

However, as the weeks went by and no payment had been made, he decided to go round and demand that the sum be paid. This is the ‘official version’ but the police suspect that there could have been another ‘affair’ involved that made the encounter so violent.

The Guardia Civil actually managed to find the severed eye on the street where the dispute had taken place and rushed their ‘find’ round to the hospital, although to little avail. The surgeons are concentrating their efforts on the other eye so that he won’t be completely blind.

In the meantime, the Guardia Civil in Guadix immediately managed to locate one of the aggressors and although the other had gone into hiding, they finally managed to arrest him, too.

Both aggressors face charges of Grievous Bodily Harm, but could face stiffer sentences if the victim loses the other eye and ends up blind.
