SAL Cortijo Thief CaughtThe Guardia Civil in Motril arrested a 26-year-old man, resident of Salobreña, charged with four acts of theft in Motril, Salobreña and Jete.

During last month the ROCA (rural department of the Guardia Civil) had received several reports of theft on farms and from cortijos in the said towns and villages. Amongst the items stolen were a motorbike, several electrical tool as well as crops (almonds and avocados).

The police began their investigation by tracking down a vehicle that might have been used for these break-ins, sending out patrols along country tracks in that area. They finally came across the van described by victims and locals and identified the owner; a man with a criminal record.

Having identified him, they began to follow him to find out where the stolen items were hidden, if they had not already been sold on. They then moved in and arrested him.

They found two motorbikes, one of which had not even been reported missing, as well as the domestic appliances and agricultural tool. They also found the 6,000 kilos of almonds that had been reported stolen in Jete, as well as 650 kilos of avocados.
