NRJ Burgled CortijosPolice Operation Cortijeros resulted in four arrests in connection with 18 break-ins around Nerja, Frigiliana and Torrox.

The suspects arrested, all of whom are Romanians, allegedly carried out the break-ins or burglaries, targeting rural dwellings (hence the operation’s name).

According to the Guardia Civil, they moved from town to town using public transport and then went by foot after dark to the cortijos, breaking open doors or windows and carrying off easy-to-carry electronic items and even food and bathroom commodities.

The police kept the area under surveillance during October, which led to the arrests of two of the four and then to the remaining two.

One of the cortijos was targeted a total of three times by this gang of burglars, who even went so far as to rip out the bars on the windows or front door in order to gain access. In most cases, the cost of the damage caused was greater than the value of the objects stolen.
