Andalusian Elections Announced

AND Susana DiazThe Prime Minister of the Andalusian Regional Government, Susana Díaz, has just announced that there will be elections on the 2nd of December.

She said that she had made the decision because of the political instability in the rest of Spain, considering that the Andalusians do not deserve to suffer an election campaign for the next six months, which is why she has brought the elections forward by four months.

Another reason is that the break with her coalition partners, Ciudadanos, means that it is not possible to approve the regional budget.

The final reason, she explained was to separate these elections as much as possible from the looming Regional and Municipal elections in May 2019.

Editorial note: foreigners can’t vote in the Regional and National Elections, so foreign residents won’t have the chance to place their votes, however, if the PSOE were to lose it would be the first time that they lose power and control of Andalucia in nearly 40 years.

The Central Government will be watching what happens in Andalucia very closely as indicative as to how the socialist Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, will fare if he also calls for early national election.
