SAL Lottery WinnerSome folks in Salobreña are lucky buggers, thanks to a lottery win; ONCE seller, Gabriel Esteban Moreno sold 26 tickets, each one worth 35,000 euros.

Yes, this ONCE lottery seller, who you can find on Calle Comericio, handed out a total of 910,000 euros, so there are over a score of Salobreñeros who will no doubt be standing him una copa or two.

There are ONCE outlets all over Spain, with some 20,000 lottery sellers; in offices, in little booths or standing outside supermarkets, for example.

The name of the organisation, by the way, is an acronym for Organización Nacional de Ciegos Españoles (National Organization of Spanish Blind People).

Although lotteries to help the blind came into being in the early 30s, it wasn’t until May 1939 that the first national one was born (ONC). Even so, it wasn’t until 1952 that the ‘E’ (Españoles) was added to the end.

So there you go, a spot of History for you!
