MOT Burst Sewage PipeThe rains yesterday,  with more expected today, affected Motril on two fronts: the works on Calle Ancha and down in the immigrant tent site in the port.

Firstly, up at the top of town in the Calle Ancha area, more specifically Calle San Isidro, the excessive rainfall caused dwellings, garages and business premises to be flooded with sewage water.

This was because the rainwater had broken through the temporary piping put in place within the roadworks.

The fire service and the Protección Civil were called in and the construction company informed.

Obviously, locals were extremely miffed, not only because of the stink and health hazard, but also because these roadworks have been ongoing since May.

MOT Immigrant Tents FloodedAnd as mentioned above, the downpour also affected the temporary immigrant holding centre down in Motril Port, where the water flooded into the 13 tents – they are all pitched in a concrete yard within the port, where there is little or no rain drainage.
