Record-Breaking Weekend

GRA Sierra Nevada SkiersThis weekend has seen the highest figures ever for visitors to the Sierra Nevada in a spring season: 21,000 skiers.

Sun, clear skies and plenty of snow has conspired to make the perfect skiing weekend up there – 21,000 skiers can’t all be wrong, after all.

That’s a huge number of people; it’s almost twice the population of Salobreña, for example and about 5,000 short of the population of Almuñécar.

But, of course, that’s only skiers and not the total; people who went up just to visit the snow without going on the slopes. Talking of slopes, there are 70 kilometres of skiable slopes with top quality snow.

Many people spent the nights there too, with the hotel occupation figures between 65% and 70%.

There’s no doubt about it, our province is doubly blessed with beaches and ski slopes, world famous monuments like the Alhambra and stunning and varied countryside.
