ALM Embrace TheftsA 19-year-old Romanian girl has been arrested in Almuñécar as the alleged culprit behind three acts of theft.

The method used is known as the ’embrace’ where the victim, normally an elderly person, is embraced as if the culprit knew them. Taking advantage of their proximity, they would pick their pockets or remove chains, watches etc.

This kind of ‘operation’ is a favourite with Eastern European criminal gangs, according to the Guardia Civil.

The thefts took place in different parts of Almuñécar between the 25th and 27th of March. The victims were two men and a woman.

In the cases of the men, the culprit allegedly used offers of sexual favours to get close to them: from one of them the girl reportedly stole a gold crucifix on a chain and the other man lost a Rolex watch.

There were cases like this in in town in February, again involving a Romanian female.
