MOT Fire Playa GranadaThe early hours of yesterday saw the Motril Fire Service and Policía Local rushing around in the south of town sorting out the flooding and a fire.

On Friday, the road that leads past the Centro de Desarrollo Turístico had to be closed to traffic, as well as the Camino del Pelaíllo and Playa de Poniente roads where garages and ground-floor premises were affected. The Celulosa road wasn’t reopened until the next morning, Saturday.

At 03.30h the fire service were called around to Edificio Pelaíllo where cracks were discovered in a roof, which was leaking profusely. And hour earlier they had been called out to a restaurant in the beach area to pump flood water out.

But as if tackling flood water were not enough, they had to put out a fire on a piece of land in the area known as the Las Zorreras; this had taken place at 00.30h.

Finally, there was a cortijo fire in the Coto 200 area of Salobreña that had the fire service out at 01.30h. It’s surprising that there would be any kind of fire given the amount of water falling out of the sky, but there you go!
