SAL Old Town WorkThe old town in Salobreña, you might have noticed, is sprouting workmen, hardhats and ditches – much of the underground infrastructure is getting overhauled.

The Mayor, Mª Eugenia Rufino Morales, and the Chairman of the Mancomunidad, Sergio García Alabarce, had a good nose around a couple of days ago to see how it was all going.

“They are carrying out very important works to remedy the problems experienced by locals,” said the Chairman of the Mancomunidad, adding that that Salobreña has a very old, water-mains network that is very deficient.

This month a project for work on the Depósito de Matagallares (water tank) should be ready for execution, with a budget of 655,000 euros.

Outside Salobreña proper, there is a project being drawn up worth 200,000 euros in La Caleta and furthermore, some 400,000 euros is being spent on the work on Calle Bonifacio Caro in Lobres, which is 80% complete.

All told over two-million euros is being spent in the municipality on subterranean-infrastructure overhauls.
