SAL tourists OnLWhilst the number of people using the tourist information points in Salobreña  fluctuated little during 2017, the percentage of foreigners has continued to increase.

The difference between the 2016 figures and the 2017 ones is minimal; around 50 people with a total of 25,093 last year, the number of foreigners increase by seven percent, reaching a total of 48% of the total number of visitors.

In other words, the number of tourists is pretty much stable but the percentage pertaining to foreign visitors is now nearly 50%.

That foreign figure breaks down into 14.3 from the UK, 9.5% from France, followed by 4% from Germany with the Danes and Swedes bringing up the rear of the Top Five with 2% each. Belgians, Norwegians, Netherlanders and Finns make up around 1%.

The Salobreña Councillor for Tourism, Manuel Guirado, puts this down to the promotional work being carried out both nationally and internationally, especially by the Junta plugging the Costa Tropical. The new connections out of Granada Airport have also had a positive influence, he considers.

“If we look back ten years, the foreign figure had reached 33% of the total number of visitors, which was way above the same percentage for the City of Granada or the provincial average,” he said, adding that all this is despite the town’s accommodation deficit (hotels/B&B).

He finished by pointing out that the number of people requesting information via the municipal social-media accounts has also increased notably.
