SAL Thief CaughtAn 43-year-old individual with an extensive criminal record was arrested in Salobreña for having allegedly carried out two violent robberies at the end of December.

The first one occurred at 17.30h on the 31st of December and was against a bar. According to the Guardia Civil, he entered the bar with a yellow, shopping-bag over his head with two holes in it so that he could see out.

Armed with a kitchen knife, he demanded the contents of the till. The staff took refuge in the kitchen but the thief followed them in. However, the proprietor got hold of a frying pan containing very hot oil and threw its contents over the thief, who immediately fled.

Three quarters of an hour later, he reportedly burst into a pharmacy, still armed with the kitchen knife, again demanding the money from the till. He tried to get into the back of the chemist’s but the owner and an attendant blocked the way. Faced by this opposition, he turned and fled again.

A Guardia Civil patrol was taking statements in the first establishment when they heard that he had just done the same in a nearby pharmacy, so they abandoned what they were doing and went after him.

Working their way systematically through the surrounding streets that caught up with him – with the description from the bar they knew who they were looking for.

They found the kitchen knife on him and also noted that his jacket was covered with oil, so there was little doubt that they had the right man.
