An adult son is looking at 33 months in jail for having deliberately broken his aged father’s leg by jumping on it.

The incident took place on the 16th of March, 2015 around one in the afternoon when the two were walking along the Camino del Campillo (Baza) and a heated argument ensued.

The 34-year-old son started to hit his 71-year-old father with an 10cm-thick olive branch; on his arms, legs and body. The father defended himself with his fists and a stone. Suddenly the son jumped on the father’s leg, fracturing the tibia in his right leg.

The son, Manuel P.A., immediately phoned the police to say that he had just broken his father’s leg in a fight. He remained at his father’s side until the ambulance turned up.

As a result of this injury the father needed surgical intervention and a long period of recovery (550 days).

Besides this prison term, the Public Prosecutor is recommending the application of a court order, forbidding the son from approaching within 200 metres of his father during a period of three years.

The trial will taken place on the 8th of January in the Granada Law Courts.
