A Drowning Off Maro

NRJ Immigrants RescuedAn immigrant drowned off the coast of Maro. According to Salvamento Marítimo, the victim was a male who jumped out of a RIB before it reached the beach.

The incident occurred around 17.30h on Sunday the 3rd. Five hours before, Salvamento Marítimo had received a tip off to say that the craft, with six women an a minor amongst the passengers, had left the Bouyafar area of the Moroccan coast.

A search was launched involving three aircraft, one of which, a Sasemar 102, spotted them not far off the Maro

The Guardia Civil were alerted, who waited on the beach for them to make landfall, which is when one of them slipped overboard, probably in order to avoid capture. He never made it to the beach.

The rest of the immigrants were attended to once on dry land, all of whom displayed symptoms of hypothermia. The body of the man was also recovered.
