SPN Disco Floor GivesThe floor in a discotheque in Tenerife (Canary Islands) gave way last Saturday resulting in forty people being treated for injuries – nobody was killed.

The figure original stood at 22; the number taken to hospital by ambulance, but it hadn’t taken into account the 18 people that made it to the hospital separately. Two British tourist were amongst those injured.

The discotheque, Butterfly, is located in a shopping centre near Playa de Las Américas, which is one of the largest tourist areas on the island.

As the result of the structural fault, all the business premises in the shopping centre have been closed until further notice – they are expected to be allowed to reopen shortly.

The Town Hall assures that the discotheque has all its papers in order. Furthermore, under the disco is a bingo hall that has been closed for a while, which is why nobody was injured below when their ceiling came down.
