ALM Dread Boar on Velilla BeachThe morning of Thursday the 9th broke Playa Velilla in Almuñécar to reveal a dead wild boar (jabalí). The beach cleaning crew were surprised, to say the least, when it was pointed out by an early-morning beach stroller.

The beach cleaners from Urbaser informed the Policía Local and the Guardia Civil before scooping it up – gingerly.

The Town Hall puts this the porcine tourism down to the growing population of wild boar whose members are ranging far and wide, with or without beach towels and suitable bathing attire. It also has something to do with urban encroachment into a hitherto purely rural environment, mind.

However, the case is, the police and Town Hall aren’t sure how it got there, but one thing is for sure, it wasn’t washed up because wild boars don’t look their best after a day or two bobbing around and this one, apart from looking mildly surprised, was in good shape, on the outside, at least.

Editorial comment: On a personal note, living on top of a mountain above Otívar, wild boar in an unholy alliance with mountain goat, eradicate any attempt at homegrown vegetables on a nightly basis, bless their cotton socks.
