SAL Paseo Concete BarriersSalobreña has acted on the Central Government’s recommendations to install obstacles on the seaside promenade to prevent terrorist attacks like the one in Barcelona.

Along the length of the Paseo Maritimo town-hall workmen are installing around 30 concrete barriers and stone planters.

The following day to the Barcelona attacks, the provincial office for the Central Government headed by Francisco Fuentes informed the Mayor, María Eugenia Rufino, that it would be wise to install such fixtures as Salobreña, along with other seaside towns like Almuñécar and Motril, is a plausible target, owing to the large number of tourists present.

Upon receiving these instruction from the Central Government, the Mayor held a meeting with the Commanding Officers of the Guardia Civil and the Policía Local, together with relevant Town Hall department heads, to establish which measures should be taken. The result are these barriers that should prevent a vehicle speeding down this pedestrian area.

Each one of the 12 concrete barriers weights 1.5 tonnes and are the main obstackes, whereas the 18 large concrete plant-holders are more ornamental than anything else.
