Useless Roundabout

SAL Stuck BusI had gone down to Chiringuito El Peñon in Salobreña at Friday lunchtime on my motorbike – only a lunatic uses a car on the Costa Tropical in July – and there it was, a bus stuck on the roundabout.

It is absolutely impossible for a coach or bus to navigate around the roundabout in its new form, next to Restaurante Bahía, as the bus driver found out. There he was, stuck half way around it with cars piling up behind him.

The only way out was to reverse all the way up to where Avenida del Mediterraneo meets the Paseo Marítimo, so I helped by keeping more cars from entering whilst the hapless bus driver reversed all the way back out.

Why there is not a sign warning long vehicles, even articulated ones, that it is effectively a cul-de-sac with a piddly, impractical roundabout, is anybody’s guess. The latest elimination of parking has only exasperated the problem.

The problem is that the TH1-area work has meant that access to the Camino del Gambullón is denied, so that if you drive down to that end of the beach, the only way out is to squeeze around the inadequate roundabout and come back the way you came.

In the meantime, there is a Town Hall official, who designed this Mickey Mouse roundabout, who is a actually being paid for having thought it up.
