Explosion in Dúrcal

LEC Durcal Explosion OnLEight people have been injured by an explosion in a butcher’s shop in Durcal (Valle de Lecrín) yesterday, Monday 3rd April.

The explosion, which occurred on Calle Comandante Lázaro, is thought to have been caused by a gas leak, either in the gas installations or the butane bottle itself.

The 112 emergency number received several calls at 17.00h from locals saying that there had been an explosion which had caused a fire in a butcher’s shop.

Amongst the injured is the 53-year-old owner of the shop, whose state is said to be critical, and two minors; an 11-year old and a 7-year old.

Update: it appears that when the owner of La Picanta, Teresa Morales, opened up the premises it allowed oxygen in, fuelling a slow-burning fire inside, causing an explosive combustion (flash fire).
