AXA drunk driver - photo E. Cabezas OnLA drunk driver caused mayhem in Torre del Mar in the early hours of the 18th of March, but fortunately nobody was hurt, although damage was caused.

The 44-year-old woman, in a high-end car, drove down several pedestrian streets, covering some 200 metres in a straight line – well, sort of – taking out half a dozen bollards and colliding with at least two parked vehicles.

The boozed rampage took place from Calle Levante as far as Calle San Andrés, started at 02.50h, and ended just a little later when she slammed into the facade of a building.

Both she and her companion had to be taken to hospital for injuries of varying degrees. She was breathalysed at the scene of the accident and was found to be well over the limit.

In a statement before the police she stated that the car was an automatic and she didn’t know how to drive one.

It took municipal workers all of Saturday to put the damage right.

The end of March has been a tragic one as far as road accidents go as a 40-year-old pedestrian was knocked over and killed by a biker on the Avenida Vivar Téllez (Vélez-Málaga) on Sunday the 19th, Fathers’ Day, and a 29-year-old biker was killed when he left the N-340 near Urbanización Vallemar on Tuesday morning.

Lastly, a 45-year-old pedestrian was knocked over and seriously injured on Friday the 17th while jaywalking near the El Ingenio shopping centre.
