Salobreña now has a municipal hiking club which will explore walks in both the provinces of Granada and Málaga.

Councillor for Sports, Manuel Guirado, explained, “We wanted to enlarge the municipal sports on offer and with the arrival of this new year we have set in motion this programme, which we hope will find wide acceptance.”

The first hiking route will be on the 22nd and will take in the Camino Nuevo de Los Cahorros and the second walk on the 12th of February, which will explore Poqueira and surrounding villages in the Alpujarra.

Then on the 5th of March hikers will be able to enjoy La Maroma in the Almijarra, while on the 2nd of April it will be Los Peñoncillos – Arboretum, in the Sierra de Huétor.

The last walks of the season will be over on the Málaga side: the 14th of May will see a visit to the Fábrica de la Luz – El Lucero, in the Sierra de la Axarquía, and finally on the 4th of June – El Caminito del Rey. This last one is highly recommended.

The price of each hike is twelve euros per person and will include a bus, guides and insurance. If you prefer, you can obtain a season ticket for 55 euros.

However, neither option includes the Caminito del Rey, which has a special price.

The Councillor explained that these six walks could be increased in number, depending on how people respond and that they are open to suggestions for other routes.

Finally, to participate, you must be 18 or over although minors will be admitted if accompanied by adults
