Old Bus Station Plans

MOT OldBus 05So, we know where the new Motril bus station is and what it looks like, but what is the old bus station going to look like? Here’s the low down.

The company that owns the old bus station, which is situated where Calle Ancha ends, plans to convert the plot into a public square at the foot of two apartment blocks.

The Town Hall thinks that it is a great idea, much better than the original idea envisaged in the 2003 PGOU, which was to extend Calle Ancha across the road and into the bus station plot, joining Calle Antilla. Traffic flow has grown since 2003 and this arrangement would have produced bottlenecks on Calle Flores.

So, the present arrangement will see Calle Ancha end in a public square; i.e. pedestrian area. We’re talking about a public square of some 1,000 sq/m.

In order to do this, the PGOU will have to be modified and approved by the Junta de Andalucia, so you can expect at least a year just to get the paperwork sorted out before building work can begin.
