DIY Road Lines

SPN Unbroken Lines OnLA farmer from Zafra in Badajoz was found guilty of painting out parts of an unbroken white line (no overtaking) in order to ‘legally’ turn into his property.

The set up is like the Las Palomas entrance (La Herradura) on the N-340 just before the tunnel – imagine a Las Palomas resident sneaking out with a pot of paint to turn the unbroken white line into one that lets traffic across. Never mind the overtaking lane with cars speeding up to find somebody stationary ready to cross.

And that is precisely what the judge considered: “If a driver comes along the road, knowing that it is an unbroken white line, he is not going to be slowing down because he doesn’t expect to find somebody stopped in the overtaking lane.”

Obviously, it wasn’t hard to work out who the culprit was; cui bono, after all.

The farm owner, José Anotnio V. R., was fined 1,440 euros and given 14 days community service.
