Salobreña Castle Closed

SAL Castle Closed OnLAs a consequence of the heavy rains last week, Salobreña castle has been closed again to the general public, owing to rain damage.

The Head of Municipal Heritage submitted a report detailing both deterioration and flooded excavated areas. Although the water has since drained off, much is covered with residual mud.

In some parts, the low walls of the exposed excavated ruins have given way.

The Torre de la Coracha, not affected by restoration work, shows signs of having sunk a little, producing cracks. This subsidence is not new, but the recent rains have aggravated it.

“Therefore, although the damaged caused is not serious, visitors’ safety could be at risk. Furthermore, the extra work needed is incompatible with the presence of visitors,” explained the Mayor, Mª Eugenia Rufino.
