British Child Drowns in Malaga

AND Toddler DrowningA 4-year-old British boy drowned at around 21.00h on Sunday the 16th August in a private pool in Mijas Costa.

According to first reports, the child had been running around the pool area of a holiday-let chalet in Calle Oviedo in las Lagunas (Urbanización Mijas Golf).

There were older children present and it was a 15-year old that raised the alarm when the child fell in. The parents had organized a dinner party with around 20 guests.

Amongst the guests was a doctor who attempted, without success, to revive the child.

Shortly after, a medical team from the Centro de Salud de Las Lagunas arrived and tried to resuscitate the young boy during a further 30 minutes, but nothing could be done for him.

An autopsy on the victim will be carried out shortly at the Instituto de Medicina Legal, to determine the exact cause of death.

This incident follows one that occurred less than a week ago in Almería: a 41-year-old man drowned attempting to rescue two minors off Playa Monsul in Almería’s Nijar-Cabo de Gata natural park.

Finally, there was a previous, child-related, pool death last year on the 18th of August in Cotos de Mijas involving a 2-year old.

The child had somehow managed to fall from a wall that separated his parents’ house from a neighbour’s, landing in their pool.
