A 28-year-old policeman was dragged to his death by a man whom he was attempting to identify – the man pulled him off the platform into the path of an oncoming train.

The incident occurred at station in Madrid yesterday, Friday the 2nd.

Mobile-phone video show that African, illegal immigrant pulling the policeman down with him onto the tracks, but whereas the train hit the policeman square on, the other man escaped impact only to injured his head in the fall, and his conditions is said to be serious.

The illegal immigrant, Yode Ali Raba, from the Ivory Coast, also 28, began arguing with the policemen – there were two of them – when one of them asked him for his papers. There then began a physical struggle ending in the tragedy.

Finally, Yode Ali Raba has a criminal record, under different names, including violent robbery, as is well known to the Madrid police.

Editorial comment: if you look carefully at the footage it appears that the man was trying to break away from the policeman, rather that to drag him over the side of the platform.
