The Almuñécar hiking excursion to Dehesa de Camarate finally came around with about 50 participants.
It was a ‘frisky’ day as far as temperatures went, but well worth it as the autumn colours were in full display in the Camarate woods, which is considered one of the best in Andalucía.
Hikers had passed alongside fields with cows and even bulls, as they admired not only the woodlands but also the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada after the first snowfalls of the season.
After a long day of traipsing through autumnal landscape the group arrived at Purullena having enjoyed a great day out.
The next planned trip will be the Prados Lopera-Cortijo Córzola-Prados de Lopera area. Now I can vouch for this area as having fantastic panoramic views, as I’ve ridden there a few times on a motorbike and in the jeep.
You pass by the old resin-collectors bungalows, long abandoned, as well as the isolated beauty of the Cortijo Córzola; an old staging post and rural epicentre for the logging and resin trade.
